The Prot Paladin Avenger's Shield macro, and the same shape for every kick and stun

The one from the Prot Paladin videos: Avenger's Shield reaching out and silencing a caster standing fifteen yards off the pack. One macro shape for every kick, stun, fear, disorient, incapacitate and horrify. Hostile focus set: it fires on the focus and stops. No focus: it grabs the nearest enemy, fires, gives your target back and starts attacking. Swap SPELL for the ability name.

Revised 2026-09-22 from beta tester feedback: this shape fires more reliably than the one in the videos. It uses /targetlasttarget to give your target back instead of borrowing your focus, so a friendly focus survives, and holding any modifier skips the focus branch. Casters (Mage, Warlock, Evoker, Balance Druid): delete the /startattack line. It only starts melee swings.

!! Mileage varies. This exact text works on the owner's Warrior, Rogue, Priest, Paladin and Warlock. Friends running the same text get about half of theirs to fire. If one does not work for you, the fix is usually small: drop the exists condition, take out /startattack, or use the plain focus version underneath. Tell us what you changed and it goes on the page. !!

Which enemy it grabs is the game's tab order, not a caster check. On a ranged ability like Avenger's Shield it reaches casters standing off the pack; on a melee kick with a short range it is usually the mob in front of you.
12.1: a kick on a target that is not casting shows a miss and spends the cooldown.

If you keep a friendly focus, this is the plain version. It fires on a hostile focus, else your target:
